Thrangu House, Oxford's Tibetan Buddhist Centre
Thrangu House is a Tibetan Buddhist centre situated in the heart of East Oxford, England.
The centre was founded in 1981 under the spiritual guidance of the Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and under the umbrella organization of Namo Buddha Meditation and Education Centre, a non-profit organization under which all the projects of Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche are administered. Other projects include Namo Buddha temple, retreat centre, college for higher Buddhist studies and medical clinic; Thrangu Tara Abbey; Thrangu Tashi Choling Monasteries in Nepal and Tibet; Shree Mangyal Dvip School and Vajra Vidya Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies in Sarnath, India.
The centre is directed by our resident teacher, Lama Karma Wangyal, who was sent by Thrangu Rinpoche to Oxford to teach Tibetan Buddhist meditation. We often host teachings by visiting Tibetan Lamas and have a regular practice schedule for meditation and puja (prayer), as well as yoga and “Tibetan Healing Exercises” classes.
Thrangu House welcomes people of all faiths and religions. We provide a sacred space for spiritual practice and a calm place where people can come and learn about the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Our main aim is to encourage the study and practice of Buddha’s teaching to benefit society and all sentient beings. We are encouraged along this path by the kindness and guidance of our resident teacher.
